Makeline privacy policy
Last updated October 29, 2026
Makeline is a Shopify app that helps shops make what they sell: it shows the items in open orders, what each buyer asked for, and where each item is in the shop's own production steps. This policy explains what the app reads, stores and changes when a shop installs it.
What Makeline reads from Shopify
- Open orders: their line items, quantities, product images, the customization details buyers entered (line item properties), order notes and order attributes such as gift messages.
- The shop's order processing time, each product's own processing time, and an order's own Fulfill by date if the shop sets them, to work out fulfill-by dates.
- Fulfillment orders, to mark orders in progress and fulfill items.
- Orders shipped in the last few weeks, for Reports: when each item was ordered and shipped, and what it sold for.
- The titles of products the shop picks for its materials.
Makeline does not read customers' names, email addresses, phone numbers or addresses. Order details are read from Shopify when the app is open and are not copied into Makeline's database.
What Makeline stores
- The shop's step names, in order, and any extra step lists with the product types or tags they apply to.
- Each item's step history: the Shopify order and line item IDs, the step, the time, and any note the shop's staff typed. When some of an item's units are moved on their own, how many.
- The names the shop lists for its team, and which items each person is assigned to. These are typed by the shop, not read from Shopify.
- Settings the shop chooses: setup progress, shipping carriers, the days it's closed, and its order cutoffs (an occasion and a date). Product pages show the last day to order from these, through the Order cutoff block.
- Materials the shop lists: names, stock counts and costs, how much each product uses at which step, and how much each order's items have taken from stock, by Shopify order and line item ID.
- Which files staff or buyers attached to which item, and which one is the final art: the Shopify file ID and the file name. The files themselves are uploaded to the shop's own Shopify Files. Buyers send files from the order status page without Makeline learning who they are.
- The access token Shopify issues to the app, to talk to the shop.
This data is kept on Makeline's server for as long as the app is installed. Makeline does not sell it or share it with anyone, apart from the hosting provider that runs the server.
What Makeline changes in Shopify
- When staff move an item, its order is marked In progress with the step and note, and tagged with its current steps (for example "Step: Engrave").
- When staff fulfill items, Makeline creates the fulfillment with any tracking number they enter. Shopify emails the buyer if staff choose to send shipment details.
- Makeline adds a Processing time field to products and a Fulfill by field to orders, which staff can fill in on those pages. Makeline never changes products itself.
- When staff put an item on hold, Makeline places a Shopify fulfillment hold on it with the reason they typed, and releases it when they ask.
- Makeline saves an upload key on each open order, so the shop's File upload block on the order status page can send files for that order. Only that order's status page can read it.
- Makeline saves each item's step name on the order. If the shop adds Makeline's Order progress block to its order status page, buyers see those step names. Staff notes are never shown to buyers.
Deleting data
When a shop uninstalls Makeline, everything listed under What Makeline stores is deleted, access token included. Files staff uploaded stay in the shop's Shopify Files. Makeline also handles Shopify's privacy requests: a customer redaction request deletes the step history, file links, assignments and split units for that customer's orders, and a shop redaction request deletes everything for the shop. Because Makeline stores no customer details, a customer data request has nothing to report.
